The Epona Stable is best known for the fine quality of the horseback riding lessons for beginners and experienced riders. The stable
provides riding lessons in both English and Western riding styles for newcomers to horses as well as those who want to compete. The children enjoy
the birthday pony rides and for some, the introductory riding lesson provides a comprehensive education to the basics of being safe around horses
and learning riding.
The stable has a
Safe Trail Riding lesson program which teaches the rider the ins and outs of safe trail riding and the basic riding techniques that are needed.
Coming out of the stable on a lovely sunny day is the owner of the stable, Felicia Allen. With her nearly fifty years of working with
horses she exudes passion and superb knowledge of the beautiful animals. Felicia is wellknown for pioneering some effective horse programs
such as the Equine Assisted Natural Healing" (EANH) programs for individuals seeking an alternative healing experience with horses and the
innovative Giddy Fit! With Horses program which was launched this year and is the only one of its kind in Canada specifically designed
for obese individuals wanting to
experience horses and a goal of fitness. The CKNW Orphan's Fund has kindly offered to consider financial support applications from famillies who have children
that can benefit from the program.
The Epona Stable is also known for the excellence of care of the horses. As the current home of the Standardbred Horse Fan Club, the stable
also takes in rescued horses and rehabilitates those who may have had a history of abuse. Felicia is one of the oldest Natural Horsemanship practitioners
in Canada with years to draw on when it comes to healing and working with horses. She is also a double-certified horse trainer. Felicia's wish is to find
"an equestrian center" where all the happenings and goings-on could be for all year.
Felicia started the Equine Right To A Quality Life movement (ER) to bring to light the horrible fate of nearly
90,000 horses in Canada every year in the Canadian horse slaughter houses. The tireless work that Epona Stable is known for
when it comes to people and horses is spectacular.
The stable's programs for horses and people are extensive.
In the summertime the children receive an education and learn horseback riding in the children's summer riding camps.
The stable has limited horse boarding while searching for a larger facility. Horses for lease are
also available for students in the riding program.
Drama students and actors have also benefited from the stable's specialized riding programs and
Felicia is quick to point out with a laugh that “everything horse ofcourse” is her passion. "I want to share the beauty, the spirit, the courage of horses and the
tragic lives that some horses also must endure in modern society too."
Once a year (near Christmas) the stable is popular for the special discounts on riding lessons which make for some ideal gifts for under the Christmas tree.
