Green Party Pete Fry becomes mayor of Vancouver
B.C. Green Party Pete Fry steps up to the Vancouver Mayor podium
On October 18, 2026 B.C. Green party Pete Fry became the first Green mayor of a major city in Canada with a spectacular win.
The BC Greens were elated and released this statement: “History was made tonight. Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, has elected a Green mayor for the first time."
According to a Green Party press release Pete Fry and the Vancouver Greens ran on making Vancouver a city people can actually afford. Pete Fry promised to bring back a Renters’ Office, build homes that stay publicly owned, and judge every city policy by whether it makes life more affordable for the people who live there.
BC Greens have been addressing the affordability crisis so the people who keep B.C. running can build a life. According to the B.C. Green Party, "That means homes within reach, care you can count on, and challenging an economic system that benefits the few at the cost of the many."
Pete Fry has his work as Vancouver's mayor cut out for him. There is mass discontent over property title ownership with the Feds giving most of Vancouver away to an indigenous native peoples. Homelessness is at an all time high, and the costs of living in the Westcoast's biggest city is driving people away.
Pete Fry is preparing to address the issues head on. "I'm very excited about my role as mayor, leading a mixed council," Fry said. "And doing what we can do to better the lives of all Vancouverites."
In addition to Vancouver, former Green Party candidates were also elected in Chase, BC (Mayor), and Lillooet, BC (Councilor).
